Father: I went to Ghaziabad to see my son! As soon as I got off the plane, I called my son and told him that I have arrived, where are you? Papa, I am in the office, I have booked a cab for you, it will be outside the airport. Go and sit, I have given the address of the house to the cab driver, he will take you home.

I sat in the taxi and reached my son’s house and entered the house after opening the lock. I lay down on the sofa in the drawing room, after a while the doorbell rang. The delivery boy was standing at the door with some food packets.
I had just taken the packet when I got a call from my son Sanskar – Papa, I have sent your lunch, eat it and rest, I will meet you in the evening! I slept after eating, I was very tired and had been awake since 2 am to catch the flight from Bareilly to Dehradun at 4 am.
I fell into a deep sleep. I heard my son’s voice, Papa! How are you? I kept asking about your well-being and also kept looking at the mobile again and again. Akash was very happy because Papa had come to Dehradun for the first time.
When he woke up the next day, he wanted tea. I had a habit of waking up early in the morning and drinking tea. I asked if there was a milk and teapot in the kitchen, I would make tea. Akash said laughingly, Papa where do I drink tea? Lying on the sofa, his finger was moving rapidly on the mobile. I sat quietly, what to do! I had no idea whether to go out and drink tea.
Well! I was still in this dilemma when the doorbell rang. My son said, look who is it Papa? The poor son was sleeping and had woken up early because of me. The delivery boy was standing at the door with a packet of idli sambhar vada along with hot tea.
Then we both had breakfast. My son said, you can order anything you need from your mobile. I knew that you have a habit of drinking tea, so I ordered it. My son’s latest technology and convenient mobile phone reminded me of my generation, when when father would return from office, all of us brothers and sisters would rush to take care of him. Someone would rush to bring water, someone would bring breakfast, someone would pick up the used utensils.
How much has changed between our past and today’s generation. We had respect for our father but there was also a fear that he might get angry. Today’s generation is practical and is living in the technological world. I remembered that my son had booked my ticket from mobile itself! It felt very natural for my son to take care of me.
It is not that our children do not respect us! They love us a lot! Only the way has changed.
