Story of the movie Ek Duje Ke Liye

It is the story of the love affair between a Tamil man, Vasu, and a North Indian woman, Sapna, who are neighbors in a town in Goa. who come from completely different backgrounds and can barely speak each other’s languages. When Vasu and Sapna confess their love, their families are in turmoil as they face an unexpected test of their love.

The film begins with an old and ruined building near the beautiful beach of Goa. The dilapidated walls of the building are covered with many names, but two of those names are different, Vasu and Sapna.

Vasu is a cheerful, carefree young man from a Tamil family. Joe resigns from his job after his boss scolds him and returns to his home in Goa. Tell me one thing, Vasu’s parents live in a rented house. Vasu’s Khadush Tamil father is always in conflict with the Hindi-speaking neighboring family. And in that family lives a beautiful daughter Sapna, who studies in a college.

And then being chased on the way home by a creepy bookstore clerk, Sapna sees Vasu jogging and then Sapna starts a one-sided conversation with him. Seeing this, the clerk of the bookstore retreats. Sapna thanks Vasu for pretending to be her friend, but Vasu reveals that he does not know Hindi. Vasu wants to befriend her.

He tries to meet her later and Vasu writes down his name and then while standing his motorcycle breaks down and he crashes and reaches the hospital. Impressed, Sapna sends him a gift: a ceremonial mask with her name written on it.

Despite the fights between the two families, Vasu and Sapna fall in love with each other. They get to know each other, experiencing the joy and innocence of first love. One day, Sapna misunderstands Vasu when he tries to force her to his chest.

And then Sapna gets angry and breaks up with him. Despite Vasu’s efforts to convince her of his love, Sapna ignores her and remains furious. A week later, Vasu lay awake all night looking out his window in the hope that she would forgive him. Seeing him like this breaks his heart, and then Sapna forgives him and repeatedly signals to him by turning off the lights of his room.

Vasu and Sapna meet the next day. And Sapna expresses her love by kissing Vasu’s hand. Lovers unite and visit Goa’s beaches, forts, waterfalls and sightseeing. And then suddenly while returning home late at night, Vasu’s motorcycle ran out of petrol. Just then they see a car approaching and they reveal their identity as a newly married couple.

And ask for a lift in the car. But in that tax, Sapna’s father is sitting and he takes Sapna home immediately. Vasu and Sapna keep seeing each other and fall even more in love.

One day, when Sapna returns from college to meet Vasu, she finds an unscrupulous bookshop clerk at her house. The man had secretly clicked pictures of Sapna and Vasu together and showed them to his parents. Burning with anger, Sapna’s mother forbids her to see Vasu and accompanies him everywhere. And then, Vasu hatches a plan and secretly meets Sapna during her college lunch break. And they go to a hotel for lunch.

Vasu stops the lift halfway to spend some time with Sapna. And Vasu sings a love song for her using his broken Hindi. Hearing this, there is a crowd of people outside the lift of the hotel. On exit they are reprimanded by the guards.

And then the families of Vasu and Sapna come to know after this incident. Angrily, Sapna locks her in the house and Vasu’s father scolds her. Vasu boldly meets Sapna at Sapna’s house in the presence of Sapna’s parents and professes his love to her. Sapna’s mother screams and claims that Vasu is ruining their family honour.

In the end, the two families meet in a house and Vasu and Sapna reaffirm their love for each other. and ask to get married. Their families allow them to marry on one condition – that they live separately for a year without any contact or communication. Later, if they still want to be together, they can get married. Vasu and Sapna agree to the contract.

Vasu moves to Hyderabad for a job, while Sapna stays in Goa. Vasu writes a letter to Sapna every day, over the course of a year, expressing his pain and love, but does not send it to her because of the contract. One day he meets a young widow named Sandhya and Vasu learns to speak Hindi. He also learns classical dance from Sandhya to overcome his pain.

On the other hand Sapna goes to all the places where Sapna and Vasu used to go. And then brings back the old memories of the dream. And she also visits a rocky hill near the beach, where her names ‘Vasu’ and ‘Sapna’ are written on the highest cliff. To make Sapna forget Vasu, her mother destroys the cassette tape that Vasu had given her.

Sapna’s mother burns the only picture of Vasu which Sapna drinks after mixing it in her tea. To reply to her mother, Sapna writes Vasu’s name on every inch of her bedroom wall, which further angers her family.

Sapna goes on a college trip to Mangalore, where her mother sends her cousin Chakram to spy on her. Chakram wants to marry Sapna, but Sapna doesn’t like him. Incidentally, Vasu also comes for Mangalore job.

He sees Sapna and follows her to her hotel room, but does not meet her due to contract and then after Sapna leaves, meets Chakram, who lies that he and Sapna are married. Vasu is surprised to meet Sapna’s college friends and inquire about her, but they say that Chakram and Sapna are going to get married soon.

And then meets Sapna and she learns that Sapna is not married and she is still waiting for Vasu. Seeing their true love, Sandhya gives up her love and decides to unite them.

Sandhya tells the truth to Vasu and annuls her marriage, urging Vasu to go to his love Sapna as their one-year contract was fulfilled. And then Vasu leaves for Goa when Sandhya’s elder brother hears that the marriage is annulled and feels that Vasu has abandoned his sister. Drunk, angry the same night, he calls up his criminal friend in Goa and asks him to kill Vasu.

When Vasu comes back to Goa, and is about to meet Sapna at his beach, Vasu is brutally beaten up by a criminal friend of Sandhya’s elder brother and a gang. On the other hand, Sapna is heading towards the beach to meet Vasu. That’s when the clerk tries to attack him,

Sapna tries to escape from him and jumps from the second floor. Seeing her almost dead from a fall, the clerk still violently rapes her! After that Sapna and Vasu meet and the goons run away. However, Vasu was badly injured. Realizing that they cannot live without each other, they shake hands and together they jump off the cliff, dying and immortalizing their love.

That’s the gist of this story.
